I Call You Friends:
Toward A New Theology of Marriage and the Single Life
Dr. Richard Gaillardetz
Our first major fall event is a Morning of Recollection with noted L.A. Congress speaker, Dr. Richard Gaillardetz from Boston College where he is the chair of the Theology Department. His topic is called: ‘I Call You Friends,’ Toward A New Theology of Marriage & the Single Life. Too often “vocation” is only associated with religious and priestly life. All of us, however, are living out our calling. Living our calling demands renewed and ongoing attention if it is to stay fresh and life giving. As a happily married man with four sons, he deeply understands what we need to do to live out our married commitments. In like manner, the choice of the single vocation carries its own challenges if it is to be lived with faithfulness and fulfillment. In a retreat like atmosphere, Dr. Richard will focus on both of these two special vocations. He has a very special talent for making what might otherwise be difficult tenets of theology both easily understandable and accessible.
The ‘I Call You Friends,’ program is scheduled for 8:30am until noon on Saturday, October 12, 2019, in the Mystical Rose Oratory on the Chaminade University/Saint Louis School Campus in Kaimuki. Although free will offerings will be accepted, this morning of recollection is free and no registration is required. Light refreshments and coffee will be available.
Fr. Robert Mackey Marianist Lecture
Pope Francis and the Renewal of the Catholic Church
At 4pm on Sunday afternoon, October 13, 2019, Dr. Gaillardetz will present a Fr. Robert Mackey Marianist Lecture in Mystical Rose Oratory. His topic is Pope Francis & the Renewal of the Catholic Church. Once again he’ll use his engaging style of presentation to update all of us concerning where Pope Francis is leading us and how we’re doing as we go down this path to new life. This free and no registration event will end by 5:30pm and will include some time for questions.
David Haas in Concert
The Fall Into Faithprograms continue on Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2019 at 4pm in Mystical Rose Oratory when noted composer and spiritual author, David Haas, presents I Will Bring You Home: Songs of Prayer, Stories of Faith Concert. David will present many of our favorite hymns along with a number of new compositions in his usual reflective style. The presentation includes his sharing of his inspiration for these pieces that we’ve come to love. People who attend a David Haas concert say that they feel like they’ve been in a wonderful prayer experience rather than just a concert. As with the other events, this too is free and requires no registration.
